Indonesia online visa application.
The Indonesian Immigration department allows for an online visa application, or eVisa, through their website. The Indonesia online visa application is done entirely online and you do not need to visit the Indonesian Embassy.
Continue here to learn more about the current visa regulations including the Indonesian free visa and the visa on arrival.
- The application is done online through the Indonesia Online Visa application system on the following website; https://visa-online.imigrasi.go.id/
- The Indonesian visa will be sent to your email and your sponsors email.
- You are not required to collect the visa in person at an Indonesian Embassy or representative overseas.
- You will not have to meet with an officer in person while applying.
- Once your visa is granted you will be allowed to travel to Indonesia.
The online application has daily limits which are reset every morning at 8am Western Indonesian Time (GMT +7). When the online application has reached the limit it will no longer accept new applications and you will have to wait until the next day to try again. These daily limits are;
- 2,000 applications for Visitor Visa (VK – Visa Kunjungan)
- 30 applications for Multiple Entry Visitor Visa (VKBP – Visa Kunjungan Beberapa Kali Perjalanan)
- 500 applications for Limited Stay Visa (Visa Tinggal Terbatas – VITAS)
- 75 applications for VITAS SK
It is not possible to apply during the weekend. It is also not possible to apply on a public holiday. This is a link with more details on public holidays in Indonesia.
These are some of the visas for Indonesia that you can apply for through the online system;
- Single Entry Visa (211).

- Work Visa (312).

How can I apply for a visa to stay for 42 nights
Valuable information, Thanks lots for sharing them with us.
Hi. I’m a British citizen. I will be retiring soon and will be settling in Bali with my Indonesian wife. Can I apply for Spouse Kitas after reaching Bali or do I have to apply for Vitas before flying out to Indonesia and then apply for Spouse Kitas.
Kind regards,

I tried to open Imigrasi Website since this all week until today But the website doesnt load and it times out. How can they use very cheap server so that no one can access this website or it is extremely slow or it times out. This is the Imagrasi Website, not online store, everyone tries to access it now a days. So cheap service by Imagrasi, shame on you.

Few time before, i was also planning for a canada visa from New Delhi India, but didn’t get last year, but this year I got the visa for AUstralia thanks for the valuable help for my visa π
Hello, I would like to apply for a researcher visa. The process is a bit complicated. I have a question, if you donβt mindβ¦
The process is mostly online. I will need to submit everything online and I am not sure if I need to handle my passport to the embassy. If not, how will they issue me a visa?
And I wonder how long the process will take.
Has anybody applied for a researcher visa before? I am required to write a formal letter of request to conduct research. Is there a template or sample for that?
I would really appreciate your help.
Thank you
I am not sure but if it is similar to other visas then once your application is accepted you will get a form by email and you be asked to visit the nearest Embassy with that form and your passport. The Embassy will then keep your passport (possibly for 3 working days) after which you will be asked to collect. Best of luck.

Hello, I am travelling to Bali at the end of August for 36 days in total. Could you advise me on what visa I need as I am getting confused between the VOA and a tourist visa (up to 60 days). Preferably I would like my visa sorted before I go so I don’t have to mess around extending it when I get there.
Thanks!!
Hi Ketut,
I hold a german passport. The photo page just fell out. I applied for a new one. In the meantime I received a green passport as a replacement for the damaged Red passport, valid for one year.
I have a ticket to fly to Jakarta to see my family for 10 days from 26th Dec to 4th Jan.
Will I still be able to get a visa on arrival with the green replacement passport. Inside the passport it says “valid for all countries” but I have to be sure!
I have an American passport and I purchased a hooker in Bali. I would like to apply for a retirement kitas. Can I do this online or w8ll I be required to go to the Indonesian embassy in the USA? I will leave for Bali August 1, 2020. I am 71 years old. Can you tell me the process please
Thank you,
Susan money
Sorry…I purchased a home in Ubud…not HOOKER..that was a typo…and i am 71 and want to enter with a retirement visa. Should I enter bali and pay for the visa and then once in Bali hire an agent for my kitas….will I have to leave bali to get the kitas or can it all be done in Bali?
Hello Susan, for a retirement visa you will need an Indonesian sponsor. If you do not know an Indonesian person who will be willing to be your sponsor then you can also contact a visa agency who will act as your sponsor and also take care of most paperwork for you. Good luck with your retirement plans in Bali and congratulations on your purchase of your HOME π

How do I get my fiancee a visitors Visa?
Your fiancee will need to apply for a visa at the nearest Indonesian Embassy before travelling.

Hi, is it possible to obtain a 60 day visa from the Indonesian embassy in Bangkok? When I look at their website it seems to suggest that it is only available for diplomats. If it is possible do you know how long it takes and the cost?
Thank you
Yes I believe that is possible.
Hello, I have a question about student visa. We are planning to come to Bali for 3 months with my 12 year old son attending school. Would it be possible to enter on the 30 day visa and apply for student visa from Bali?
Lesley B, were you able to apply for a visa in Bangkok? I am looking to do the same thing. Thanks,
Heather
I am an american married in indonesia to a indonesian wife and I want to get a KITAS. I was directed to go online and have my wife (sponsor) register and apply for a TELEX VISA for me.
We registered online now and are attempting to apply for a Index 317 and it is asking me the question “Jangka waktu tinggal sampai dengan” – what do i enter here?
As I understand it we get a telex visa and i then go over to singapore and go to the indonesian embassy and submit it and apply for a VISA???
“Jangka waktu tinggal sampai dengan” means the day you plan to leave Indonesia. Yes, you will have to go to an Embassy overseas to finalise the visa and then re-enter Indonesia. Good luck!
Ketut, is this the date I would leave Indonesia to go to singapore to process my Telex Approval?
No, the date you plan to leave Indonesia
Hi, i would like to visit Indonesia i have sponsor also there. I wish to know how much the visa fee ?
Hello,
My name is williams and I am from Cameroon and I have my permanent residency in France. I want to travel to Bali in September and I have been asked an authorisation letter from the immigration office. Does a reservation confirmation from the hotel is enough or what should i do? can you please help?

Hi,
Basically they are asking me for a sponsor in order to get the visa because of my citizenship and I don’t know anybody there as it is the first time for me. How can I get a sponsor for a tourist visa?
You can contact a visa agency to act as sponsor on your behalf. There are many visa agencies. One is http://www.visa4bali.com

Hi ketut.
I just bought a holiday to Bali bit was turned back at airport due to passport being 22 days short of 6 months.
It expires 4 November 2019 and that means it 5 months an a week.
I re applied for a passport yesterday but it will 5ake too long. My holiday was booked from 27 May to 7 june 2019.
I dont want yo lose all that money . The booking was made on april and that was more than 6 months validity. At the airportn9 was advised its days and not months they count.
Please please help. I cannot lose all that money and wont be able to get leave to travel.soon.
Thank you
Abigail.
Hello Abigail, I am sorry to hear you were not allowed to enter. The rule is that your passport has to be valid for 6 months from the day you enter Indonesia. If you arrive in Indonesia on 27 May 2019 then your passport has to be valid until at least 27 November 2019 (27 May + 6 months). Unfortunately they are very strict on the 6 month rule. I hope you can get the replacement passport soon.
Hi Ketut, I am a Canadian citizen moving to Bali for 6-9 months and am confused as to what visa I will need. I have a Canadian-based online internet business that I will be operating – do I need a business visa or am I exempt as this does not have any dealings with Indonesia? If you could let me know the best way to do this, I’d be very grateful! Thank you!!
Hi Candice, I am sorry but I don’t know the answer to your question. I think digital nomads are somewhat a grey area in Bali what concerns visa requirements. I am under the impression that you are required to be on a work visa even if you earn money overseas. Nevertheless, I also think that many digital nomads in Bali just stay under the radar which seems to be an easy thing to do if that is what you do for a living. The Bali Expat website has dedicated a blog post to Digital Nomads ~ https://www.baliexpat.com/legality-digital-nomad-bali/ . Good luck π
Hi Ketut,
I will be travelling to Bali on the 10th June with a 60-day visa. I leave Bali on the 23rd for Vietnam, and then return on the 11th August. I am planning to spend the day in Bali, and then get my flight home the evening of the 11th August. My question is will I be able to enter Bali on the 11th because my 60-day visa will have expired! I don’t mind paying another $35 for a new 30-day visa, but is that possible? Will I be able to get this new 30-day visa (having just had a 60-day visa)?
Thank you very much for your advice.
Kit
Hello Kit, if you are one of the 169 countries that can get a free 30 day tourist visa then you will not need to pay the USD 35 visa on arrival fee.
I will be obtaining a British emergency travel documents today. I will be flying out of Manila and into Bali. I will, however, require a visa before I fly as the I will will be doing so on a ETD. can some one please assist me as to what visa is required and how can I obtain one other then enquiring at Indonesian embassy here in Manila. I will be flying in 3 days, so any speedy response will be much appreciated.
Hello Ketut
I wonder if you can help. My daughter is travelling around exploring different countries and she is currently in Thailand she wants to travel to the Philippines and other Indonesian islands from 17/1/17 and has friends coming to meet her from the UK for around 6 weeks. They will then leave and myself and my husband are travelling out to Bali on 22/4/17 to 15/5/17 to meet her for a holiday so she would want to be in different parts of Indonesia from the 17/1/17 to 15/5/17 in total. This is too long for the VOA and 30 day extension. Is there a visa you could recommend for this time period or if she had to leave Indonesia for a day and return how many times could she do this? She is 26 and travelling to experience different cultures.
Hello Sue, your daughter could do several visa runs. She can either enter on a 30 day free visa and do a visa run every 30 days. She can also enter on a payable 30 day visa at USD 35 which allows 1 extension. However, I think the immigration officers may notice that your daughter travels in and out of the country often and may start to get suspicious as to what the reasons are for that (e.g. illegal worker). Perhaps the best way forward is to get a 6 month social visa before travelling. You would need an Indonesian sponsor for that. There are several visa agencies in Bali who offer assistance with this. You can contact our friends at http://www.visa4bali.com or another agency.
Selamat siang, Ketut
I have read somewhere that I cannot travel to Bali twice in one year, or twice in 12 months?
I want to come for a wedding on 30 December and I will be getting an extension of mymVOA, so I can stay for 60 days. My Balinese sister will be having a baby sometime in June, and she might be very sick so I want to come and help her as much as I can.
Will I be allowed to come another two,or three times in 2017?
Matur suksma
Mbok Iluh
Hello Iluh, there was briefly the idea to put a limitation but that was quickly cancelled. You are free to come as often as you like as long as you don’t abuse your visa. If the immigration officer sees you coming in many times a year on a tourist visa they may become suspicious and wonder why. If it is only 2 times then you will be totally fine.
Hi, can I renew or update Indonesian VISA online. It is about to expire.
You cannot renew a tourist visa online.
If I go to Indonesia and stay for the free 30 day VISA, could I go to other countries and then come back and receive another 30 day VISA if I wish to see more of the country?
Hello Brittany, the 30 day visa is a single entry visa. That means that when you leave the country that will be the end of your visa regardless whether you have only been here 10 days or 30 days.
VISITING BALI FOR ONE DAY ON A CRUISE SHIP, DO I NEED A VISA
Hello Michael, yes you will need a visa and very likely your cruise ship will take care of the visa on your behalf.
Hi Ketut,
Can you give me some information on how to get a retirement visa in Indonesia? My friends want to retire in Indonesia. I don’t know exactly how to help them. What do they need to do or provide? How much does it cost? How will they be able to stay in Indonesia? Thanks for your help. Also thank you for this very useful blog.
Hello Peter, how nice to hear that you plan to retire in Indonesia. Unfortunately I am not extremely familiar with the Retirement Visa and would suggest you visit the nearest Indonesian Embassy to ask for more details. Perhaps you can come back here afterwards and share with us π Good luck Peter!
Hi Ketut, is it true that I can not enter Bali with a social visa because I had one in the last 12 months?
Best regards,
Robert
Hi Robert, I don’t think that is true. As far as I am aware there are no limits on how often you can apply for an Indonesian visa. Where did you read or hear that?
I read it at Facebook “Bali Business Consulting”
This is the article;
Attention!!!
This information for everybody who worry about new immigration rules.
About the document, which appeared on the Internet
The document appeared on the network is not an order or an approved rule. It is a temporary recommendation of the Immigration Service Office of Jakarta issued for internal use by the immigration officers in Badung District (the southern part of Bali).
It is temporary instruction from the Immigration Head Office (Jakarta) valid from October 20, 2015 until December 31, 2015
Due to a lot of foreigners illegally working in Bali the Immigration Head Office recommended to immigration officers to follow the instruction.
Foreignerβs who has two visas on arrival or one Social Visa during past 12 months not allowed entry Indonesia again unceasingly.
It is a test. A trial period.
Embassies and consulates of Indonesia are advised to pay attention to the number of existing visa in a passport, but the decision to issue a visa is up to them.
This instruction aimed to toughen up the lookout for illegal workers in Bali. To avoid problems upon applying for visa or receiving visa on arrival please prepare proof of income/work from the country of your origin or any other country, work contracts from the outside of Indonesia and letters or documents explaining why you’re staying in Bali for a long period.
In the instruction nothing is said about the procedure of extending visas for those who are already in Indonesia.
Regards,
Robert
Thank you Robert. The post you have copied is outdated. On 20 October the Bali immigration office released an internal memo saying that immigration officers should decline a visa if someone visits Bali for a third time in one year. On 30 October, only 10 days later, they already cancelled this internal memo.
Hi ketut,
I have a question because I heard the rules are changed for long term stay in Bali.
My husband an I want to move to Bali (not for work because my husband has an internet business) but we heard that there are new rules about staying longer. We want to stay at least 1 year and maybe longer. Is that still possible and what do we have to do fo our visa (we are planning to come within 6 months). Maybe you have some advise for us?
We are from the Netherlands.
Kind regards,
Deirdre
Hello Deirdre, thank you for visiting our blog!
If you are from the Netherlands you can get a free 30 day visa although that is not extendable so you would need to leave the country every 30 days.
You can also choose to pay for the 30 day visa on arrival (USD 35 per person) which you can extend once (pay another USD 35) giving you a 60 day stay. You will then need to leave the country (and return on a new visa).
You can also apply for a 60 day tourist visa at your nearest Indonesian embassy before travelling.
There are a few longer options but these require an Indonesian sponsor. For example you can get a 6 month social or business visa if you have a sponsor. If you don’t have friends in Indonesia who are available to “sponsor” you then you can also use a visa agent who will create a sponsor letter for you. After 6 months (business/social visa) you need to leave the country (and return on a new visa if you wish).
You can also get a 12 month retirement visa, 12 month student visa or a 12 month work visa. A work visa can only be issued through your local employer.
I hope this somewhat explains the several options. Please let me know if you have more questions.
Good luck with the move to Bali!
Hi there Ketut,
My 14 year old surfer son and me his mother came to Bali on the 17th of October and the tourist visa runs out on the 17th of November.
For some reason I thought the stay in Bali was extendable and no idea if I got free 30 day tourist stamp without paying I couldnt extend our stay..
We have family here ( well our Bali family but not blood related but I help a few children and their familys here and we love them like family and we want to stay longer until the end of November and wondering what we can do to extend our stay in Bali…. We are also coming back in April and want to stay atleast 3 months so we dont want to cause any over stay trouble…
Some one said we cant extend our free tourist 30 day stay but I really feel there must be a way we can stay till the end of November… we also dont have money for return ticket to NZ until 23rd of November so we would be stuck anyway… oooh I really hope you can give me some advice its allready the 13th tomorrow… hope to hear from you soon π
Hi Ilone, I am sorry to hear about your issues with your visa.
Unfortunately, the free 30 day visa is non-extendable. It is also not possible to convert this free visa into a different long stay visa. The only thing you can do now is to briefly leave Indonesia to a nearby neighbouring country. We call this a “visa run”.
For example, you can search for the cheapest return ticket to Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. You leave on the first flight in the morning and you can return to Bali the same afternoon.
The alternative is to overstay your 30 day visa with the understanding that you will have to pay the overstay penalty. If you arrived in Indonesia on 17 October then your 30 day visa is valid until 15 November (not 17 November). That is because you have to include your first day (17 Oct) and your last day (15 Nov) when counting the 30 day visa.
If your flight out of Bali is on 23 November then you will be overstaying your 30 day visa by 8 days. The official overstay penalty is Rp 300,000 per person per day. So between you and your son the penalty to overstay 8 days will be Rp 4,800,000.
DISCLAIMER; I do not recommended you to overstay your visa π
Ref to my query dated September 28 th 2015, regarding the VOA… any luck for us Indians?
Thank you.
Hello Arty, at this moment no changes have been made. If you are from India then currently, at the time of writing this post, you are still required to pay USD 35 for a 30 day visa on arrival.
i am an indian passport holder and will be travelling to Bali indonesia in the second week of october 2015.
May i please request you to tell me do i need a VOA or is the entry free for indian passport holders?
I had read somewhere that from Oct 2015, indian passport holders do not require any type of a visa for indonesia.
Hoping for a speedy response. Thank you.
Hello Arty, there are indications that India will be one of the new countries that will be added to the list of currently 45 countries that receive a free 30 day visa on arrival. This change is supposed to happen from 1 October 2015 onwards. At this moment the Indonesian Government has not released an official list of the countries to be added nor have they confirmed a starting date. Please subscribe to our blog and you keep an eye on our blog post “current visa regulations” which will be updated as soon as the new changes are fact.
Hi! These are great articles. Thanks so much. Small bit confused by extendable and non extendable. My wife (english) and I (irish) are travelling through malaysia/indonesia on honeymoon. We would like to spend 40days in indonesia but from what I can tell in your posts, I can extend as I’m irish but my wife may not be able to?
Alternative solution is to get a tourist visa for 60 days but this is not available in English yet online? How best go about this?
Thanks very much again. Fair play!!
Hi Craig, I suggest that when your wife enters Indonesia she doesn’t take the free Visa but agrees to pay the USD 35 Visa On Arrival. If she is on this visa she is allowed to extend. The extension process is very bothersome though and will take up valuable holiday time. If you are able then I recommend you get a 60 day visa at your nearest Indonesian Embassy (in person) before travelling. The online visa application is very user un-friendly unfortunately and I am yet to hear from someone who has successfully applied for an online visa. Have a nice Honeymoon!
Hi. Thx for the usefull information! What type of visa will I have to apply for when staying 40 days? Will I be able to do that for all my family members? 2 a + 2 c.
And will 3 weeks be enough to do that?
We wanted to enter Indonesia with a VOA, but found out, that the extension process is quite “challenging”. Plus we will be staying in remote areas or islands after a one week stay in Bali and leaving the island 3 times with the whole family just for the extension is not very easy…
Thank you!
Hi Luca, for the most accurate info I recommend you check with the nearest Indonesian Embassy. I would have a look at getting the 60 day tourist visa before departure to Indonesia. That would be the 211 (single entry) although I believe nowadays they only give the 212 multiple entry visas (will not make much difference for you). I have never tried the online visa process myself. If you do try it please let us know how it went for you. Have fun exploring Indonesia and please contact our Bali Store Luggage team if we can help store non-vital luggage you don’t need while travelling to remote islands.
I tried to use the Visa site, but I don’t think it does what I need. First, I have to select an Indonesian representation. I can choose e.g. Bangkok and other cities, but why? Do I have to collect the visa later at their Indonesian Embassy??? Then it will ask me for an address of someone in Indonesia, who invited me (can’t remember the exact term). This is needed only for social visa as far as know. Not for a 60 day visa. So, I’m stuck there as you can’t continue without. To me this visa site is totally useless (I will enter with a VOD).
But once again thank you for your good blog!!
Hi Ketut,
This is a very well constructed and helpful article but I don’t see any reference to the 6 month single entry Social Budaya Visa. I usually obtain mine from the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra.
Also, there is no mention of a 10 day Visa for very short visits. Does it exist ? If so , how much is it ? Thank you very much, Ann
Hello Ibu Anna,
The Social Budaya Visa would be the 211 Single Entry Visa. This is for a 60 day visa that can be extended 4 times (each extension is a month). So the total would be 6 months.
I am pretty sure that the 7 day visa is no longer available except for short trips for Singaporeans to Batam. I hope this somewhat helps π
would like to apply for 3 month visa but the instructions are in Indonesian would like to have them in English please
Hi Eileen, I donβt think there is an English translated version yet. The best alternative I can think about is open the website with Google Translate. Try this link; https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fvisa.imigrasi.go.id%2Fonline%2Findex.xhtml%3Fi%3D0&edit-text=&act=url
