After several months of rumours the overstay penalty is now confirmed to increase. Previously it was IDR 300,000 per day and now it is IDR 1,000,000 per day you overstay your visa (any visa).

Foreigners who are overstaying their visa by not more than 60 days incur a penalty of Rp 1 million per day.

This change was confirmed in the Presidential Decree 28 from the year 2019 concerning the types and rates of of non-tax revenues. The change was implemented from 3 May 2019 onwards. See further below for a copy of the source file.

The maximum days you are allowed to overstay are 60 days. If you overstay by more than 60 days then you will need to go to court. A prison sentence and additional fine may be given to you.

When counting the days of your stay (generally 30 days if you are on a tourist visa) then make sure to include day 1 and day 30.
