Update: You can now easily buy a data SIM card online before traveling. This can either be a traditional SIM or an eSIM that you can use in Bali. Learn more about getting a SIM card or eSIM in Bali on the Bikago Mobile website.
These are the current Telkomsel Simpati SIM cards that are sold at the Bali airport. Telkomsel has a counter at the international and domestic arrival terminal.
At the international arrival terminal is it just after you exit the arrival building through the glass sliding doors. It is nearby the money exchange and ATM and just before the taxi counter.
At the domestic arrival terminal it is somewhere opposite Starbucks and Burger King.
Internet data package
Here they sell two different SIM card packages.
- Pay Rp 150,000 for a SIM card that includes 4 GB worth of internet data and Rp 35,000 in call credit.
- Pay Rp 200,000 for a SIM card that includes 8 GB worth of internet data and Rp 60,000 in call credit.
The staff at the Telkomsel counter will help you install and setup the SIM card. Telkomsel SIM cards are cut to standard size (micro-SIM) but also have a push out mini-SIM.
If you need a nano-SIM then they will cut this to size for you.
These are the three SIM card sizes
If you are not in a rush then it might be worth getting yourself a SIM card after you leave the Bali airport where the price will be lower.
Continue here to learn more on how to make your call credit last longer by using a special dial code for cheap overseas calls using a Telkomsel (Simpati) SIM card.
Top-up phone credit and add data
The SIM cards sold at the Bali airport are geared towards tourists. These are packages that include internet data and overseas calling time. If you don’t want the 4gb or 8gb package then you can also buy a regular SIM card at a cellphone shop nearby your hotel and then just load credit and data as you need.
A regular SIM card will normally cost between Rp 20,000 to Rp 30,000. Some shops will charge silly prices though and it is up to you to either negotiate, find a different shop or just agree with the higher price for convenience sake.
After you bought the SIM card you can ask the shop to assist and add credit. Top-up credit can be from as low as Rp 5,000 to Rp 100,000.
After you bought the Telkomsel SIM card and have sufficient credit you can buy yourself an internet package with your credit. To do this you first need to dial *363#
You will then get an SMS with the following eight options to choose from;
- Flash 5GB Rp 150rb
- Flash LTE Konten Rp 150rb
- Flash Lainya
- Flash Gift
- Turbo
- Blackberry
- Cek Status
- Berhenti Berlangganan
You will want to choose answer <3. Flash Lainnya>. You then get the following three options. Choose your preferred data package;
- Flash Harian (daily at Rp 5,000 for 50Mb)
- Flash Migguan (weekly at Rp 25,000 for 500Mb)
- Flash Bulanan (monthly ~ 4 options)
- Rp 55,000 for 1.6Gb
- Rp 150,000 for 5Gb
- Rp 225,000 for 8Gb
- Rp 400,000 for 12Gb

Ketut, do you know if there is there a Telkomsel seller in Sanur (near Parigata Resort and Spa)
There is no official Telkomsel shop in Sanur but there is a small shop opposite the Hardy Supermarket.

Airport sim cards arw a scam. I bought a 12gb +50mins of calls and it timed out after 2mins. Mt phone is basically a brick right now.
Hi Ketut
What is the latest advice on Sim cards with the recent law change on registration?
Do not buy an overpriced SIM card from the airport!
For me personally, i was sold a 30 day SIM for more than double the price and it had already been activated beforehand, so I was left with only 15 days before it expired.
Very disappointing as I am remaining in Indonesia for 29 days and now I have to buy more credit, making the price I paid THREE TIMES MORE than what I should have paid.
Big scammers- AVOID!
Hi Rebecca,
Could you please precise at which kind of desk you was scammed. Was it an official or unofficial vendor and for what operator? Thanks
The same thing happened to me in Jakarta airport. I paid 350000 IDR for a tourist SIM (simPati) with 12GB of data that I was told would last for 2 months at an official Telkomsel desk on arrival. My data ran out at 1.96 GB after about 3 weeks. Trying to top up using the Telkomel app is a pain. I added credit of 50000 IDR to add more data to my phone so I could use it again. I bought 1GB of “paket data” available for 7 days one week ago for 9000 IDR. The data ran out today and I tried to add more but all that is available are costly packages that include superfluous crap that is not needed and it appears that they have taken 25060 IDR from my credit for nothing without notice. In summary – the company appears to be committing fraud and theft and their systems are an over-complicated mess that are designed to confuse and rob you- AVOID!
Hi Ketut, I am coming to Bali on 1st February 2018. Are you able to deliver a phone and SIM to my hotel in Nusa Dua? I would like the cheapest mobile phone handset available that works with the 4G network. I would only need 2GB as my hotel has free wifi, but I would like to be able to sne dand receive texts to family in Australia, but only if it’s really important. Thank you Esther
Hello Esther, we do not offer these services but maybe you can contact Simjek. They sell SIM cards and may be able to help you with your phone question as well. Have a wonderful holiday!
Thank you so much Ketut. I appreciate your reply. Have a wonderful day!
Hi,
Can I know if there is any Telkomsel office near Beachwalk Mall, Lippo Mall or Discovery Mall ? There was a Telkomsel office near Jalan Pantai Kuta beside the McDonalds at one of the Poppies Lane but it’s no longer there now.
Thank you.
There is a Telkomsel shop in the Bali Galleria Mall. Upper floor next to Gramedia.
Hi, may i know if the above mentioned prepaid card have coverage for whole Bali? I will be traveling around Bali such like Ubud & city and diving at another area called Nusa Ceningan. Will i still get coverage there? Appreciate your advice
Yes these work in the entire Indonesia.
The Prices for the simpati data Package at the Airport are still uptodate?
8GB for 200K?
Hi,
I just gotten a telkomsel 4G LTE simpati card. The guy activated and registered my details using his phone and then have it used on my iPhone. The issue I’m facing now is that it says “this mobile network has not been certified by the carrier for LTE on iPhone. Battery life, calls, text, messages, voicemail and mobile data may be affected” I’m not sure what is wrong. I tried googling and input the mobile data APN but nothing works. I’m ok with using 3G but it doesn’t even work for 3G. It has credits and internet data uploaded in it. What should I do? :/
You can call Telkomsel customer service at 188 or 0807 1811 811
Hi, I just arrived in Bali and I would like to buy a sim card, I read all your post and is really helpful but I can’t find information of where I can go to just buy a sim in seminyak.
Can you help me please?
Many street side shops sell SIM cards and the easiest would be to ask your hotel where the nearest shop is that sells cards.
Hey very nice blog!! Man .. Excellent .. Amazing .. I’ll bookmark your site and take the feeds also…I am happy to find so many useful information here in the post, we need work out more techniques in this regard, thanks for sharing. . . . . .
Help please. I purchased a 12gb sim card upon arrival in Bali for one month. I have used 4gb only. I am leaving for Thailand tomorrow. What can I do to use this same sim card in thailand? Thank you
I am pretty sure you can only use the data package in Indonesia. I guess you can give it a try and see if it works.
Hi Ketut, I purchased a simpati sim for iphone 4, i can send and receive texts but all calls (local and international) fail. I have reset network settings but to no avail. Phone is definitely unlocked. Have used the simpati sims before and all fine but not this time …any ideas much appreciated 🙂
To call or SMS abroad you need to first dial 007 then the country code and then the phone number. Alternatively you can dial the “+” sign and then the country code and then the phone number. For cheap phone calls you can use the 01017 code (more details here).
Hi Ketut and Claudia,
Do you know how much are the Telkomsel simcard now at the airport?
Are these prices still up to date?
1. Pay Rp 150,000 for a SIM card that includes 4 GB worth of internet data and Rp 35,000 in call credit.
2. Pay Rp 200,000 for a SIM card that includes 8 GB worth of internet data and Rp 60,000 in call credit.
I’m thinking of going with simjek.com $20 for 9GB of data plus 60 mins calls and 100 sms. That is roughly 266,980 IDR.
Thanks again for these amazing info!
regards,
Clint
Do you know if there is a Grapari Telkomsel facility in Ngurah Rai to issue a REPLACEMENT sim card for my old one? I registered it and need to keep the same number but the last card was lost.
SIM saya hilang di UK, tapi masih di masa tenggang. Soalnya saya masuk Indonsia lagi di bali dan hrs buat yang baru sesuai nomor lama saya. Tahu gk bisa dibuat di bandara atau harus ke Grapari? Grapari yg paling dekat bandara dimana? Trims
There is a Telkomsel booth at the airport but I don’t think they are able to give you a replacement SIM card. You will need to visit the Telkomsel office for that. I know they have a head office in Denpasar and also an office in the Bali Galleria mall.
Just back from Bali. I used Simjek.com to get my SIM card on arrival. Perfect if you need a SIM card as soon as you arrive. A bit more expensive than in Kuta but so convenient.
Apa khabar pak. 3 of us are travelling to Bali and we do not want to buy from the airport. We will stay 1 week. We have 2 iphone 6 and a Samsung. We would like to get a internet and call/sms sim card. If we buy our sim cards from a booth near our hotel will they have the correct sizes or should we go to a bigger shop in either discovery or kuta beach. We use a lot of whatsapp and FB and like to upload pictures etc. What would be the best package for us.
Hi there!
Do you think I can bring my pocket wifi device and just buy a data sim when I arrive? I just don’t know how to get the data plan or the sim set up without a phone or can they give me one that’s already set up?
Thanks!
Hi Ketut
I am in Ubud, but bought my simPatti 8gb in Balangan. It still has 6gb flashLokal on it but I can’t use it
Where can I find the areas that I can use this data?
Thank you
Hi Claudia, I am not familiar with Flash Lokal. I had a brief look online and it appears as if this data is only valid in the local area where you bought the package. I also see that to be able to use this data you need minimum 50,000 regular calling credit on your SIM card. Maybe you can contact Telkomsel to get an exact answer on your question. Call 188 from the Simpati SIM card or 0807 1811 811 if you are using a different phone.
I will be travelling to CILACAP this month. Pls advise the best network working in that area. Is TELCOMSEL working good in Cilacap.
Telkomsel has the largest network in Indonesia and will very likely work in Cilacap.
Other alternative is rent a 4G mobile wifi / pocket wifi from Javamifi.com and you can share up to 10 devices at the same time. Hassle free without any registration/activation needed or change your existing sim card, just connect to the Mifi and start browsing.
Hi Ketut
I am a problem here. I realised that Simpati cards are always changing the different type of Internet Package, the one you mentioned above is not more. Last time I just top up Rp100,000 and I can used for the whole month but now I really do not know which option to choose and how you can advise. Thank you
Hello Ketut. Could you please tell me what is the current price for No.2 option:
2. Pay Rp 200,000 for a SIM card that includes 8 GB worth of internet data and Rp 60,000 in call credit.
Or is that price still current?
Thank you!
David
I believe this is still correct. I will try to double check. However, if possible I suggest you buy a SIM card after you exit the Bali airport. The SIM cards at the Bali airport are slightly overpriced but convenient.
Thank you, Ketut. I appreciate your assistance.
Regards,
David
They charge 350000 at the airport for 8gb redicolously overpriced!
Just bought a sim card in a kiosk at Hardys supermarket in Sanur. They charged 90k sim Telkomsel and 100k for 1 week 1gb data package for my mobile. Thats quite expensive imo. Got ripped off? Probably yes. I had no chance to bargain due to it was noon and the cel phone shop in front of hardys was closed and i was in need of the card.
I bought a Telkomsel SIM card with 2GB in Flores for use in NTT and Bali. When I ‘cek internet’ (*889#) it shows the 2GB as divided into 1500MB LocalData and 500MB Flash. After using it for a while as a hotspot for my iPhone 6S I see that the LocalData allowance is reducing with internet use but not the Flash allowance. Will I be able to use the 500 MB Flash allowance when I have consumed the LocalData allowance or is Flash meant for something else? Thanks
It is hard to know what the issue is without knowing what Flash package you have signed up for. My best guess is that the 2Gb is devided into 500 MB to use during peak hours and 1,500 MB you can use during quiet hours (e.g. 11pm – 6am)
Hi
I have a simpati card but can you advise how to set it up to use in the zte wireless modem. Maybe I did it wrongly when I am in Batam using #363# and puchase FLASH which I cannot use in the zte modem. Thank you
Hi Juliana, if you have a phone you can first activate the package from your phone and then switch the sim card to your modem.
Hi
This is what I did before I transfer to my modem, my computer can detect the modem but no internet signal. I do not know is it because I activate it thru #363# for FLASH for one month with 4GB. Is it possible for you to put the step to step in doing it. Thank you
Hi,dear friend I’m from Pakistan,I have a Indonesian friend, and I want to buy a Indonesian sim card, but I’m living in Pakistan, so please help me and tell me in Pakistan how I buy a Indonesian sim card?because I want to talk with my friend from Indonesian sim card from Pakistan, Thank you
Dear Waheed, I don’t think it is possible to buy an Indonesian SIM card in Pakistan. Even if you manage to get an Indonesian SIM card it will not be cheaper than using a Pakistan SIM card. If you are looking for cheap phone calls from Pakistan to Indonesia then maybe you can try Skype phone call or Viber or Facebook phone call.
The vendors at the airport are crooks. I paid 350k for an 8gb package with calls. After using 2gb my data stopped working. I finally looked under the little white sticker that was added bottom right of sim enveloppe to write number to call home and noticed RP 50,000. I guess I was given a 50k package for 350k. I suggest to check them thoroughly look at enveloppe before buting from them otherwise you may be stuck in the middle of nowhere with no internet connection. Paying too much for a service is one thing (for convenience at airport), but paying too much and not getting the data expected is way more annoying.
A lot of people try to rip you off in Indonesia and they are big liars who talk shit – they want cash NOW and will try to sell you anything to get it. The sim card I bought in Bali with data worked fine (when I could get a connection) in Bali and Flores until I got to labuan bajo – then I was told I had to buy “local data” package for it to work. In Flores they never saw an iphone before it appears and could never tell me how much date I had left on my plan. Even with a plan phone service sucks in Indonesia. And even some of the people who sell the services know nothing. They are really backwards
Telkom sel now has an App, you select Eng and can check your own data
Hi, I would like to know if the SIM card is compatible with an IPhone 6S Plus. Thank you
Hello Adriane, I am pretty sure it is compatible as long as your phone is not locked?
Thank you Ketut, what is included in terms of minutes for talking Incoming and outgoing calls (to and from USA), texts, and data, please?
Is there a website that provides details about the usage, price and information of these SIM cards?
Thanks again,
Adriana
Hello Adriana, the rates for phone calls to the USA are mentioned in the post above. I personally like Telkomsel Simpati because they have a good signal throughout Bali and also many other islands in Indonesia. Please continue here for more details on internet data packages.
Hello Ketut:
do you know a retailer of telkomsel SIM card or a sales manager’s contact?
I’m a purchaser from China, our company needs to buy a batch of data SIM cards that from traveling use.
If you can provide me some contact information of any sales person, it will be so grateful.
Hello Jenny, sorry, I don’t have contacts at Telkomsel. Maybe you can try to find contact details in the Telkomsel website (if you haven’t already).
Hi Ketut:
ok, thank you all the same.
Hi Ketut,
I’m arriving in Bali on Feb. 3rd and will be traveling around Flores, Lombok Gili’s for 2 months. I’m not sure what type of internet package I should get? I sometimes will use my phone as a hotspot for my laptop when there is no wifi available.
Hi Jim, Telkomsel is probably the biggest provider in Indonesia with the widest coverage so I’d get myself a Telkomsel Simpati SIM card.
Hi Ketut,
That was not my question however – lol.
I ended up buying an 8G Telkomsel Simpati card with 70 credit from the small kiosk just outside the exit gate and paid 350k – Obviously I got ripped off.
Ok, I just reread your question and see I misunderstood 🙂
Ok so what is your opinion on the 350k charge at the airport?
I’m not sure Jim. Maybe they put the prices up? Was the Rp 350k price printed on the SIM card envelope?
No price – just says 4G LTE, but my iphone 4 only goes up to 3G
Sorry, not sure why they charged you so high. I will have a look for myself next time I am at the airport.
Anyways, enjoy Flores, Lombok and the Gilli Islands!
Please visit our main website and contact us at “Bali Store Luggage” should you need help with storing excess luggage while you travel around Indonesia for two months. Our website is http://www.balistoreluggage.com
Hi Ketut & JIm,
Jim: we also found that all prices at the airport are bumped up, so we decided to skip them, because they are just trying to pull a fast one. In the village here I can buy a simpati simcard for 10k. (yes they tried to sell it for 25, but it helps that the simcard itself says 10k..) after that I will try Ketut’s advise.
Ketut; thank you for posting this article as well as this one: https://www.balistoreluggage.com/blog/how-to-call-cheap-overseas-from-indonesia/ where you explain how to call cheap internationally.
I will try you advise.
Thank you for the information. Heading that way in a couple weeks. Are there 4G cards? Can the 4G cards be used in areas where there is no 4G coverage? Are they compatible with 3G transmitters as well? Backwards compatible? Any information you can provide would be appreciated.
Hi Kevin, I know that Telkomsel and Indosat have 4G SIM cards and coverage in parts or all of Bali. I am not familiar with the technical aspects except that only the newer phones can accept a 4G SIM card.
Hi Ketut, I bought a telkonsel card at the airport at 2nd of januari. It is the big one with 8gb (And 4gb extra) and 300K (100k Extra). Nice deal I thought.
Today I wanted to call my childeren at home for the first time.
I cannot call home to the Netherlands, but allso I cannot call local. I can sent sms, I can be called.
What’s wrong here? The phobe was installed at the airport, and to expensive not to be used. My friends who lice here buy always there cards with you and never have problems.
The phobe I use is an Iphone 5s.
Please let me know soon?
I’m travelling to Ubud tomorrow and really need to be able to call!
Hi Angie,
I am not really sure what is happening and there could be several reasons why you cannot call. If your iPhone is locked by your Dutch phone company then you cannot use an Indonesian SIM card. It could also be that you are already out of calling credit. You can check your call credit by dialing *888#. If your calling credit is zero then you will need to add credit. It could also be that you dial the wrong prefix. To call or SMS the Netherlands you need to dial 007 31 43 388 52 82. You can also use the special 01017 prefix code for cheap phone calls (this does not work for SMS). (click here for more info on cheap phone calls with Telkomsel).
Whatever it is, I hope you find the solution soon. Enjoy Ubud!
Hi Ketut,
Thx for your fast answer.
No, my phone is not checked and there is still enough credit becaurse I cannot use it. I only used it for sms in Bali 5 times.
My friend looked at it and the card that I bought at 2nd of januari had a sticker on it that says valid untill 31 december 2015. Could that be the problem?
Hi Angie, that could be the reason. Maybe it is best to call to the Telkomsel call center. Their phone number is 188 if you dial from your Telkomsel Simpati phone. If you cannot call with a Simpati number you can also call the standard phone; 080 718 11 811. Keep your number ready as they will ask for it.
Wow! This is an enormous source of practical knowledge! Thanks a lit for sharing it!!
Thanks Ketut for the information.
I have a question. Is there a lower limit data option, say 1 GB or 2 GB, alongwith credit, as my stay is for a week and 4GB could be excessive considering hotel/resorts too have wifi. Thanks.
Hi Anil,
The SIM cards sold at the Bali airport are geared towards tourists and come as packages. If you don’t want the 4gb or 8gb package then I suggest you do not buy the SIM card at the airport but buy it at a cellphone shop nearby your hotel.
A regular SIM card will normally cost between Rp 20,000 to Rp 30,000. Some shops will charge silly prices though and it is up to you to either negotiate, find a different shop or just agree with the higher price for convenience sake.
After you bought the SIM card you need to ask the shop to add credit. This can be Rp 50,000 or Rp 100,000 (or less as well).
After you bought the SIM card and added credit you can subscribe to an internet package. To do this you dial *363# (assuming you buy yourself a Telkomsel SIM card e.g. Telkomsel Simpati).
You will then get an SMS where you need to respond with a number from a menu. You choose answer <3. Flash Lainnya>. Then you can either choose <1. Harian/Daily> <2. Migguan/Weekly> <3. Bulanan/Monthly>.
After you choose option 1, 2 or 3 you will get to the next screen which shows the package prices. The prices at the moment of writing this post are;
1. Daily package at Rp 5,000 for 50Mb.
2. Weekly package at Rp 25,000 for 500Mb.
3. Monthly package at either Rp 55,000 for 1.6Gb / Rp 150,000 for 5Gb / Rp 225,000 for 8Gb / Rp 400,000 for 12Gb
Remember to check-out our blog post where we explain how to get cheap rates for calling overseas from Indonesia.
Last time I was in Bali I bought a Telkomsel simPATI card with data and calls included. Every time I texted someone I would get a text from Telkomsel, and at various other times. I don’t speak much Bahasa Indonesia so couldn’t understand them, but asked someone at the hotel and they were advertising or reminders about buying more credit. It became very annoying to get these texts every time I used my phone, and I wondered if there is some way to turn off these alerts?
I also found that a lot of my texts to Australia didn’t go through.
Are there any other Telephone companies with a more reliable service?
Hi Simon, I wish I knew how to turn of the advertisements as I agree they are quite annoying. It is possible that when you go to Grapari (customer service) in person that they may be able to stop the advertisements. I haven’t tried (yet).
If you want to try something different maybe have a look at getting an Indosat SIM card (e.g. Indosat Mentari). There are probably as big as Telkomsel.
hi, what time is the booth open till? thanks
Hi Chanel, I think they close when it starts to go quiet around 10-11pm. If you can’t buy a SIM card at the airport you can always buy one from a street vendor the next morning.
What is the price To call with simpati dial 01017 to the Netherlands
Hi Ginny, the rate to call from Indonesia to the Netherlands using the 01017 code is Rp 2,400 per minute. Follow this link to find an overview of the rates to call overseas from Indonesia.
