The Bali airport taxi have a taxi counter both at the International and the Domestic arrival terminal.2. Where can I find the Bali airport taxi counter?

Turn to your right. b) International arrival terminal; the taxi counter is after you exit the arrival terminal, pass the hotel drivers waiting for their guests and nearby where the taxis are parked. Wonder what the old Bali Ngurah Rai airport taxi rates were? You will need to state your destination and they will quote you the price. You will get a ticket with the number of your taxi and the price you need to pay. Your taxi driver will be at the counter as well and walk you to the car. You pay direct to the driver (not at the counter).

The Bali airport now also has a public transport bus system as of September 2015 onwards (click to learn  more).
5. Scams
Sometimes the Bali airport taxi will charge higher than the official rates. This generally happens during peak times when there is a big demand for taxis. Also, if you arrive late night, the official airport taxi counter may have closed. There will still be taxi drivers hanging around although they will take advantage of the situation and charge very high fees. Have a look in the comments below to read what others have experienced. If you have been charged above the official rate for the Bali airport taxi please share your experience with us.6. Bali private driver
Bali private driver ~ if you rather not deal with the overpriced airport taxis you can also consider getting your own private driver. If you have a private driver waiting for you you will not have to queue for an airport taxi. You will also not need to worry about having to negotiate a fair price with the airport taxi crew. Contact our friends at Top Bali to book a reliable private driver for an airport transfer or day tour. Other alternatives
Hotel driver ~ Most hotels in Bali offer optional airport transfer services at a supplement fee. Some hotels will include free airport transfers if you book direct. Grab Taxi ~ This is the Asian version of Uber (founded in Malaysia). You will need to have the Grab Taxi app installed on your smartphone. Bluebird ~ Bluebird is one of the most reputable meter taxis in Bali. They are officially only allowed to drop customers at the Bali airport. They do not have a license to pick-up customers from the Bali airport. Nevertheless, it is sometimes possible to go up to the highest floor where the international departure terminal is and quickly hop into a Bluebird taxi who has just delivered customers to the departure terminal. Sarbagita public bus ~ Sarbagita is the public transport provided by the Bali province. They have a bus stop at the international arrival terminal on the ground floor. The bus drivers about every 30 minutes to an hour. A bus ticket will cost you about Rp 7,500. The bus stops at major roads and is perhaps not convenient unless you have very little luggage to carry.Continue here .
Hi, I would like to know how much will it cost from airport (8am) to Suarti Boutique Village, Ubud for metered taxi and airport taxi. And approximately how long will the journey takes. Thank you.
The official airport taxi fee to Ubud is Rp 300,000. The ride at 8am will probably take you about 60-75 minutes. I don’t know what the meter taxi rate will be but it will be less that the official airport taxi.
By Ian
Can you tell me what time the taxi counter closes as our flight lands at 23-15. I just want to know whether to book a private driver or gamble on a taxi
HI, We would be travelling to Bali on the 21st may,3 adults, could you please tell us how much should be the meter charge from the airport to Kuta?
Also How much will a boat charge from Kuta to Gili Tarwangna?
Thanks
Officially meter taxis are not allowed to take passengers out of the airport but if you do find one I think it will be about Rp 40,000 – Rp 70,000 depending how far you go into Kuta. As for boat charges you can have a look on the website of boat companies as they publish their rates online. Have a good trip!
i will be arriving in Bali on May 21 at about 1135 pm (night). my hotel is Grandmas Seminyak. i understand the airport taxi counter will be closed by that time. how much will it cost me to get to my hotel.
Hi
We will be arriving at DPS at 2pm on 20 May 2016. We have booked the Bidadari hotel in seminyak. We checked the hotel for airport pickup and they quoted as idr 250.000. There are 4 of us. Is this price reasonable? Also can you recommend a private car driver who can bring us around to some of the attractions.
Try the Uber app. See what price they quote or go upstairs to the departures hall
The official airport taxi rate would normally be Rp 110,000 I think but it is unlikely you will get this rate and you won’t fit all four in a small airport taxi unless you have little luggage. The Rp 250,000 your hotel has quoted seems a reasonable deal. If you want to get it cheaper you could try to find a meter taxi upstairs but also a meter taxi will not fit four adults with luggage.
We landed Ngurah Rai Int on 1st of May, late in the evening. The guy in the official taxi counter on the right, just before the Dufry Duty Free asked 200,000 IDR for a ride to Legian. Before doing my homework at home about Bali, I had read somewhere that the price was about 55,000 IDR to Legian, so I told him this, he said with a smile on his face “noooo sir, too low price where did you find it”, I tried to explain but didn’t work, and also couldn’t be sure if the price I saw on the web was a current one, add the 12hr flight, I kept it short and paid what was asked. Anyway my fellow Bali travelers, from my own experience particularly in Bali, the sellers adjust the local price according to this formula: (p*2)+20,000 where “p” is the local price. To go that low in the price range you also need to have a good friendly attitude towards the merchant.
Arrived last night at 8pm. Was charged 300000 for a ride to seminyak. Seems scamming is occuring even through official lines.
Yes it is a scam. I had the same encounter, the price list shows 150k to nusa dua but they quoted me 150k. I walked away, one man approached me and offered me 150k to nusa dua. I took it without hesitation. The official taxi is way too expensive.
I visited Bali during Christmas last year and here is what I experienced :
1. The official rate to Nusa Dua was 150,000 but at the counter, around 7pm, I was asked 270,000 so I decided to walk away
2. I tried to go the top floor to get a passing Blue Bird Taxi, but just as I was about to walk to the road, I was stopped by some unscrupulous taxi driver who asked me where I wanted to go and offered me 300,000. I clearly refused and walked away.
3. Then I spotted a real Blue Bird taxi stopping by dropping off passengers, so I ask if the driver can take me to my hotel in Nusa Dua, he said yes but as I was about to load my luggage into the trunk, I was stopped by the same taxi driver who I met earlier (he was just walking around there) and said I have no right to get on Blue Bird taxi and that I had to go with him. So I told him ” I’d be crazy if I go with you” and walked away from him quickly.
4. I went downstair to ask for the official Ngurahrai Taxi. Many taxis were queuing up and I asked a taxi driver and he said to Nusa Dua was 400,000 !!!! So I said it was to expensive and he offered me the best price at 300,000. I settled with 300,000 in the end because it was almost half and hour going up and down for nothing.
So from my experience, get the first offer at the counter inside. It was the best (albeit overcharged) deal.
Hi, I am staying at Ara Inn in Jln. Kartika Plaza Gg. which if Expedia is correct should be around .50 miles from the airport not even a mile. I am arriving however at 11pm. I contact the hotel and they said they could arrange a pick up for me for 100k. Will it be cheaper if I just grab a taxi at the airport or will they charge me more since it’s late at night. Is 100k a reasonable price for the distance. Ty.
Hello Mike, you can probably get it cheaper by using Uber (not legal yet) or Grab Taxi. You could also walk out of the airport with your luggage and find a meter taxi which will also be cheaper. However, in my personal opinion, Rp 100,000 for an 11pm private transfer to Kuta isn’t that bad and I imagine you rather get to your hotel swiftly instead of loosing time negotiating with the Bali airport taxi crew or breaking a sweat while walking with all your luggage to find a meter taxi.
Hi,
I didn’t check the rates at taxi counter to Nusa Dua and I paid 250.000 IDR + 11.000 IDR toll fee.
It happened on 2nd of April 2016.
A lesson for the Next time.
Arriving on April 11th I hired a private driver to reach echoland beach/cannggu. So far I have problems to change the location after a 5 days stay. My itenerary leads me to Ubud. So what is in your opinion the cheapest/safest/quickest way to reach Ubud ? After another five days I`m heading foreward to Sanur. Therefor I`ll take the Perama bus shuttle. Is this the right choice ?
Hi George, the cheapest would maybe be with Kura Kura bus or Perama Tour. The safest possibly with a private driver or a Blue Bird taxi. The quickest by helicopter 🙂
Hi Ketut.
If I am to get a cab from departual hall, am I able to buy any SIM card there? Or I should get one at the arrival hall then proceed to departure? Otherwise would SIM sold in semiyak or kuta be cheaper?
Thanks
The counters where you can buy a SIM card are at the arrival terminal (not departure terminal). If you buy a SIM card outside the airport it should be cheaper. I suggest you just get an empty SIM card, add a certain amount of credit and then register for a data package (if you need) or just use it to do phone calls. A SIM card only with no credit should cost you about Rp 20,000.
hi there, im staying at the seminyak (vasanti). so according to the chart, it looks like the fare would be 110,000. Am i correct?
But i’ve read through some comments here, and it looks like most people are getting overcharged?
I have five adults and two young children.
in your opinion, would you think I’m better off pre-arranging for a driver with an MPV?
Thank you so much Ketut!
Hello Jan, the airport taxi rate will be (or should be) Rp 150,000. If you are with 5 adults and 2 children then you will need at least two taxis but likely three depending on luggage as these taxis are not very spacious. It will probably make more sense to book an MPV in advance of travelling. Have a good trip Jan!
Taxi drivers at Bali airport are scammers. We arrived at 1am and went to the taxi booth. We didnt realize it was already closed since it was full of taxi drivers in blue shirts. They were charging triple of what the amount showing up on my uber and grab app.
Hi Ketut,
Thank you for your useful sharing,
I am having difficulty in planning my transport, hopefully you can give a little advise from you.
I will landed on 15 April 2106 0755hrs,
my hotel:
PULLMAN BALI LEGIAN NIRWANA
JALAN MELASTI – LEGIAN – BALI 80361 – INDONESIA
They offer 220.000 for the airport transfer, but refer to your transport fee chart, is cheaper if I take airport taxi to my hotel. What do you think?
and I will need to travel to candidasa the next day for diving, any advise on this.
hope to hear from you soon. thank you
Hello Albee, normally the rate for an airport taxi to Pullman Legian should be Rp 80,000. You can find this price in the first picture at #18 – Kuta II. However, most of the time the Bali airport taxi will charge above the official fees as you may have noticed from the several comments below from previous travelers. Still, even if the airport taxi charges you more than the official 80,000 I don’t think it will be as much as 220,000. The hotel transfer at 220,000 may be a smoother experience though as you won’t have to worry about negotiating and you will have a nicer car.
Hi ketut, glad to hear from you~
thank you very much for your prompt reply.
But I still have some questions, and hopefully you can help me on this.
1- May I know waterbom Bali ticket purchase online cheaper?
2 – from kuta to candidasa, wat is the best way and how much will it be?
3- from candidasa back to hotel?
4 – any watersport or activities near kuta you recommend?
Sorry for the questions, and thank you so much for your kindness.
Hello Albee,
I don’t know where the tickets for Waterbom are cheaper. Maybe you can check online and compare rates. From Kuta to Candidasa you can just book a regular meter taxi or a private car transfer. There will be plenty of private drivers on the street offering their services. For watersports, Kuta is perfect for surfing or body boarding. If you were thinking of banana boat, flying fox, waterski etc … then Tandjung Benoa, with flat ocean, is perfect.
Hi Ketut,
Thank you for your suggestions and advise.
May I know roughly around how much will be from kuta to candidasa?
Thank you~ ^^
Just arrived this morning to Bali. The prices printed out are as shown here, but staff tries to heavily overcharge.
My hotel is just 8km from the airport in Kuta, which should cost either 70k or 80k, but I was asked for 150k. I said no and spent some time downloading BlueBird taxi app, then asked staff again, now they said 175k!
There was a taxi driver just behind the rails (among many others) who saw the address of my hotel and then asked for 100k.
What would be the taxi fare from Bali international airport(DPS) to Sheraton Kuta. We are arriving at 10 p.m on 21st March. Also, how to get a cab from the airport.
That should be Rp 80,000. You can book the taxi at the taxi office (see first picture)
Hi Ketut,
I’m travelling to from Denpasar Airport to Citadine Kuta Beach? How much roughly the normal taxi will charge?
The official rate should normally be Rp 80,000
Hi Ketut,
Hoping you can help with some info. My friend and I are arriving in Bali late evening on March 8 and we have been advised by our hotel located in Seminyak that we need to take a taxi as they will not be able to organise transfer because of road closures due to Ogoh Ogoh Festival. What I would like to know is if the hotel won’t be able to get through, how will the taxis??
Hello Alicia, on the evening of 8 March there will be Ogoh Ogoh street parades and many streets will be blocked generally from somewhat 5pm to 9pm. It depends a little on where you stay. Nyepi and the Ogoh Ogoh parade are very important to Balinese and most will be spending this time with their families including hotel drivers. What time is your plane landing in Bali?
Hi
Our plane lands at 9.45pm
If your plane lands at 9:45pm you will probably be out at around 10:30 – 10:45pm. At this time it should be pretty easy to get from the airport to your hotel (providing you find a driver) as the Ogoh Ogoh parade will have finished by then and the streets will go quiet.
Awesome. Thanks so much. Was a little concerned that we may have been stranded
Hi Ketut,
Thank you for the very useful information.
I’d like to ask you, from Anika Melati Hotel and Spa at jalan Nuri no.2, is it walking distance to the international airport? Is there a short cut to get there? I’m thinking to stay there for a few hours before my early morning flight. Otherwise, how much do you think the taxi cost? Thanks
Hi Steven, it is probably a 15 minute walk to Anika Melati. If you want to stay closer have a look at Harris Tuban Hotel or TeQuiero Hotel.
Both these hotels are literally on the other side of the fence from the Bali airport. The Harris Tuban includes free airport transfers by car.
Thank you Ketut for the super quick reply. Will look at those hotels
Arrived yesterday. Was asked to pay 150k to the building next to kayumanis jimbaran despite it being v close to intercontinental which had 100k price tag. Despite my complaint, they said its a lot furthet!
Kayumanis Jimbaran is actually before the Intercontinental so the official rate for you should have been at most Rp 100,000.
Hi Ketut, wish I had seen this article earlier.
On Feb 24, I was charged 300k idr from airport to Umalas hotel, which I see should have been 135k. This despite pointing out that it was not far from Seminyak.
I have the taxi and driver details and a receipt w amount. I don’t expect a refund but would like to complain for benefit of others.
Thanks fpr any suggestions?
Hi Mehta, I am sorry that you got scammed. You could write an email to Angkasa Pura I. They are the Management Company (by Indonesian Government) of the Bali airport. They are the ones who give the license to the Bali airport taxi. If enough people complain to the airport management company maybe they will revoke the license of the Bali airport taxi or at least reprimand them. The website of Angkasa Pura is http://www.angkasapura1.co.id
Hi Ketut
If i need to get a local SIM at the airport and also get the bluebird taxi from arrival halls. Am i able to get the SIM first then to arrival hall?
Hi Lee, the Telkomsel SIM desk is just as you exit the arrival terminal through the glass sliding doors. It is nearby the money exchange and ATM.
There are no Bluebird taxis at the arrival terminal. The only taxis allowed at the arrival terminal are the Ngurah Rai airport taxis (which this post is about). Bluebird are meter taxis and they are officially only allowed to deliver customers at the Bali airport. They do not have the license to pick-up customers from the Bali airport.
However, it is possible to go up to the third floor where the departure hall is. At the departure hall there are frequent Bluebird taxis who drop of customers. Some Bluebird taxi drivers are happy to take customers out of the Bali airport (although technically not allowed). To get to the third floor you can either use the elevators (there are 4) or the escalator.
To all travellers
theres new option for cheaper taxi for backpackers …
just download uber/ grab application before you landed there
When arrived u can get free wifi at the airport and hunting for car
for me myself try grab car many times including all cities within the country
have great holiday
I want to know the rough price for 9 people from the air port to Seminyak. Could you help us?
Hello Maki, the standard Bali airport taxi can probably take three adult passengers with luggage. For a group of nine you will need three airport taxis. It would make more sense for you to book a private driver with minivan in advance of travelling. There are many freelance drivers who have a minivan. If you are open to suggestions perhaps you can contact Leo Sumardika (Leo_sumardika@yahoo.com). Leo has an 11 seater Isuzu Elf Minivan.
Make sure to ask your hotel the average taxi rate from the airport before taking taxi from airport counter. I came across this article and took taxi from the airport counter like it suggested, ended up paying 3 times the normal rate. I was charged 300,000 instead of 100,000 which is the normal rate to W retreat, Seminyak.
I hope no one will experience the same thing I did to the start of their vacation. Whoever wrote this article either don’t know what they are talking about or must be working for them.
Hi Eric, I am sorry to hear you got overcharged. This is unfortunately common and if you read all the way to the bottom of the article you will see that there is a mentioning about the possibility that rates go above the official rates. I will edit the article and move the alert more to the top so other travelers will not miss it. This website is in no way related to the airport taxi; this is the blog of Bali Store Luggage. One question though, where did you get the information that the normal rate to W Retreat is Rp 100,000? Rp 100,000 is not the correct rate for a Bali airport taxi to the W Retreat.
I was in Bali a few days ago and elected to ignore the official taxi counter completely and head up to the Departures hall to catch a Bluebird taxi. I was staying in south Kuta and the board listed a price of 70,000, but Bluebird charged me a far better price of 29,000! Getting back to the airport I chose Bluebird again, same low price.
Just definitely make sure that you’re in a real Bluebird taxi as there’s a lot of very similar knock-offs around, all blue and various images of birds on the side but not all of them Bluebird! Any that have ‘BLUEBIRD TAXI GROUP’ in big letters on the windscreen (not ‘BLUE TAXI GROUP’ as one knockoff I saw read) should be legit.
Hi!
Are there any taxis with children`s seats? We are going to Ubud from the airport and we have kids aged 1 and 3 so I wonder if I should book a driver with children´s seats in advance from some private company.
Hello Heini, I don’t think the Bali airport taxis have children seats available but I am not 100% sure. It is probably safer to book a private transfer in advance if you want to be absolutely sure you will have a car with baby seats. I know that Wayan has at least one baby seat (wayanprivatedriver@gmail.com).
Hi there, What if we arrive at 1:30 am in February. We want to go to Ubud but we don’t know if we are going to be able to go there at that time. Can we book a taxi at that time? How much it will cost? and if we can’t, can we do it to Kuta to sleep in somewhere and then take something to Ubud during the day?
Cheers!
Claudia
Hi Claudia, the official rate for an airport taxi to Ubud is Rp 250,000. There is a chance that they will charge you more than this. There will be taxis available although the official taxi counter may have closed and you will need to negotiate a rate with one of the drivers that are still up to meet customers.
You could book something in Kuta but it will cost you time and extra taxi money. The ride from airport to Ubud at night will probably be around 60 minutes. In day time it is closer to 90 minutes due to traffic.
Hi Ketut,
My Partner and I have one of the flights that land in the middle of the night (1:30am) I am wondering do they have drivers available at all hours?
We are just heading to Kuta so I would think that a taxi shoudl still be cheaper then hiring a driver at that time?
Thank you
Hi Tehneel, as long at their are passengers landing there are taxi drivers waiting for business. You will likely pay more than the official rate when getting an airport taxi in the middle of the night but perhaps still less than arranging a private driver to meet you.
Hi Ketut how much does it cost a taxi from the Denpasar airport at 24.00 to kuta centrum ? 2 persons
Hello António, the official rate for a Bali airport taxi to central Kuta should be somewhere between Rp 70,000 to Rp 95,000 depending on the exact destination (Numbers 17, 18 & 18 on top picture). Unfortunately, it is possible that the taxi counter will quote you above the official rate if you arrive at midnight and if I had to make a wild guess I think you will be charged closer to Rp 150,000.
It is a nice resort, that explains it! Thanks very much for the tip Ketut. We can’t wait for our trip to Bali 🙂
Hi Ketut – do you have a suggestion for private driver we can hire to take two people from airport to Ubud? Our resort quoted us 450.000 which is even more inflated than the already inflated airport taxi. Maybe it would be better to hire driver on our own and use him again for another tour or transfer later? We are grateful for any ideas.
Hi Natalie,
Rp 450,000 for a private transfer between airport and Ubud is above average but it also depends on where you stay. If you book a simple homestay then Rp 450,000 is expensive. If you stay at the Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons then Rp 450,000 is cheap.
Many of the high end hotels will use fancier cars, very experienced drivers, offer a WiFi connection in the car, arrange cold drinks upon your arrival and a cool face towel. I have even seen hotels who had a newspaper ready on arrival and some fresh fruit in the car.
Having said that, if you are not bothered about all that then you can either just use the airport taxi which will be lower than Rp 450,000 or book a freelance private driver. Wayan is a Balinese driver who does airport transfers as well as day tours. You can contact Wayan at wayanprivatedriver@gmail.com.
Have a wonderful trip Natalie!
Hi,
Thanks for all the helpful advice!
Were getting a taxi from Ubud to the airport at around 8pm. Should we expect to pay 250,000 – thanks for that!
Hi Aaron, Rp 250,000 for a private car from Ubud to airport sounds about right. If you are looking for a cheap deal then you can probably go shopping and find it for Rp 220,000.
Great – thank you so much!
Hi, I’m coming to Bali in late March, arriving at 9 pm. Although it isn’t a holiday, do you think people at the taxi counter would try to charge extra for a transfer to Ubud since it’s late at night? I was thinking of being firm with the published rates, but at that time at night I wouldn’t have much options left if I don’t pre-book in advance.
Thank you very much!
Hi Gabriela, if you land at 9pm you will be out at about 10pm. Unfortunately the overcharging is becoming more common. Ubud center should be Rp 300,000 but they will likely charge you more. Perhaps you can get a quote from your hotel or another driver and then compare to the (inflated) Bali airport taxi rate.
Thank you for your quick answer! I will do that, thanks.
My husband & I have been to Bali many times. Our arrival on 25Dec2015 was the worst when we took taxi service from airport to hotel. Cant really remember the taxi no (22 or 022). He was not welcoming at all. Usually the driver welcomed us as we walked out the arrival hall cause he should know who his passenger. This driver ignored us until we walked to the taxi stand n forwarded our slip to the staff with a walkie. He looked at our slip n pointed to the driver who was walking right behind us. The driver 1st word to us was “Why stay in Legian. Its a BAD place”. We were shocked out of our life when he said that. We knew he got to go through the traffic jam but that should NOT be the comment to give to passenger. That was not all. We thought that all service personel in Bali are friendly. We tried to create conversation. At one point we asked, where we were. His replied, “I donno”. It was a shocking replied. You as a taxi driver and you were not able to tell us the place that you were on?? OMG. That was not all. When we arrived at the One Legian Hotel, we gave him some tips. Not sure how much it was, caused it was darked. It could be rp20k or rp50k. To our surprised, he THREW the money on the floor. This was really SHOCKED us to death!!! If he do not need the money, could be it too small to him, he can just courteously reject it.
To our conclusion, the driver might have personal problem that he should NOT bring it to work. Because of him, Bali Taxi will be labelled BAD taxi.
Hey,
My boyfriend an I are coming to Bali on the 8th of march at 9pm which is one of your holidays. We want to take a taxi up to Ubud on this evening. Is that possible? Because we heard that there will be parades on the streets.
Thank you and lovely greetings from Germany 🙂
Bianca
Hello Bianca! I suggest you book a transfer through your hotel. There will be very few airport taxis at the Bali airport as nearly all taxi drivers will be at home with their families to enjoy the Ogoh-Ogoh parades and prepare for Nyepi. If there are taxi drivers left at the airport you can be pretty sure that they will take advantage of the situation and charge you very high rates as they know that you have no other choice. If you arrive in Bali at 9pm you will unfortunately have missed the parades which usually start around 7pm or 8pm. Maybe it would be interesting to see if you can postpone your arrival in Bali to 10 March instead? On 9 March, Nyepi Day, you will have to stay inside your hotel the entire day.
Just walk outside and haggle. Pre-paid is boring, have some fun with the drivers. I got my partner and I to Seminyak from the airport for 100,000 today. They all initially wanted 200,000, claiming it was peak hour. Have fun!
I wanted to take a taxi from the airport to Legian on 14th November. The fat man at the taxi counter quoted me 150k, much higher than the official rate.
Don’t use the Airport Taxi Cartel, they are a rip off and will try to scam you.
Dont ever buy your taxi ticket at bali internasional counter. They are cheating . They charge double than published rate.
Ketut and Wayne, thank you very much for the helpful advice!! We have reservations at the courtyard Marriott Bali nusa Dua and I’m a little confused looking at the rate chart on which of the listed destinations is the one closest to the hotel to get a taxi ride estimate. Thank you for your advise again!!!
We arrive at DPS airport at 4pm international arrival and from reading all the past comments it seems cheapest going to the 3rd floor international departure to get the Bluebird taxi? I had a friend that just came back from Bali and kept saying anything over 30000 IDR is too much. Is this correct? Thanks ahead of time for any feedback!
Hi Dora, it is possible to take the elevator from the ground floor (arrival hall) to the 3rd floor (departure hall) and try to get a Bluebird taxi. A few things to note;
(a) Bluebird taxis are officially not allowed to pick-up passengers as they don’t pay for the license (hence why the airport taxi is more expensive as they pay a high license fee).
(b) There is a chance that other passengers will be on the 3rd floor to catch a Bluebird taxi. As Bluebird is not legitimate there is no official queue and there is a chance that you will be competing with other passengers to get into a taxi.
(c) The difference between an airport taxi and a Bluebird taxi will be a couple of dollars. If you are on a tight budget then a couple of dollars can make a change. If you rather get it over and done with then the Bali airport taxi is not as bad as they make you believe.
You can expect though that the Bali airport taxi will charge you over the official fee published on the board. One other possibility is book a UBER driver if you have that installed on your smart phone.
Have a good trip Dora!
Airport taxis are ripoff. If you can go upstairs, do it. The man who collects the money will rip u off
Good day Ketut!
We are from KUL, Malaysia to Bali arriving on 23/Dec/2015 noon. We had booked hotel at Ubud (Hanging Gardens Ubud) which to refer the airport taxi rates chart above #30. UBUD CENTER @ Rp.300.000, right? Or more than Rp.300.000?? If I manage to get Bluebird taxi outside airport, roughly how much could it be? And can we book Bluebird taxi for return to airport on departure day? From airport to our hotel at Ubud about 50km @ 1.5 hours?
Thanks in advance!
Hi Sunny, the Hanging Gardens Ubud are in Payangan, about 10kms north of Ubud. The official rate for an airport taxi will likely be Rp 350,000 (#20 on 2nd picture). The ride will take you about 1:30hrs. I am not sure what it would cost you with a Blue Bird taxi from the airport to Ubud, sorry. As for the return from Ubud to airport, the Blue Bird taxis do not have a station in Ubud and there are no Blue Bird taxis standby in Ubud. Most transfers from Ubud direction airport are by hotel transfers or private car transfers that you arrange the day before departure. Have a good trip Sunny 😉
Noted with thanks, Ketut. Cheers!
Hi Sunny, Can you share how did you arrange for Taxi from airport to Hanging garden and what was the cost? We are staying at a hotel very near to Hanging Garden.
Also how did you arrange for cab while your stay in ubud (If you have used it any time)
Thanks in Advance.
I’m kicking myself, because before our recent Bali trip I checked your website for the fixed price taxi fares, but did not read the forum comments. I would have saved a lot of hassle and money. At the counter they tried to give me two inflated prices, when I finaly convinced them that I knew where my hotel was and the posted rate they reluctantly gave in. But then they tried to give me a chit without writing the price on it, opening the door to more problems. When I insisted they complied, but I got dirty looks from all. To boot, the taxi driver was very grumpy.
Do your homework before dealing with these crooks.
Hi
first time visiting Bali next month from Dubai. Booked in Asana Aguna putra bali hotel. It is less than 4 KMS. How much I should pay for taxi in the international airport. Where to hire good taxis for sight seeing and places like Sanur (local sight seeing)….Can you suggest me
Hi Joseph, the official rate for an airport taxi to the Asana Agung Putra Hotel (AP Inn) in Poppies I should normally be Rp 80,000. This is destination #18 on the first picture.
However, it is possible that they will ask for more for no particular reason. A private driver you book in advance will probably cost you about Rp 120,000 to 150,000. I think the airport taxi will still be less than book a private driver in advance but I could be wrong.
As for a driver and guide for a day you can either book this in advance (get a quote from Leo at Leo_sumardika@yahoo.com) or find a driver on the street (there will be many drivers and guides around the area of your hotel).
Have a wonderful trip!
Hi Ketut,
Many Thanks…..In the meantime i had booked for a taxi pick-up from my hotel and they charge me 150.000
With regard to local tour I would prefer to use Bali Leo tour as suggested by you (may be slightly pricy but comfortable with reputed/registered travel agents)
Hi Joseph,
Good to hear you managed to book the transfer with your hotel. One small tip, it can get very crowded and sometimes visitors cannot find their driver.
If this happens to you just go to the information desk to let them know you are looking for your driver. They will make an announcement over the sound system and ask your hotel driver to report to the information desk.
The team at Bali Leo Tour are all friendly Balinese drivers and I am sure they will take good care of you.
Cheers
Thanks again ketut. I do not want to keep searching for my driver and instead I prefer to cancel my booking with my hotel airport pick-up and get it done through airport taxi. Much appreciate for the valid info.
I called up the number in Bali Leo tour and he has confirmed his availability for a couple of days tour/guide during my stay in Bali. Quite nice of you for the guidance.
Cheers!
Joseph
Do yourself a favour and catch a Bluebird from the departure ramp. Much cheaper than the airport taxi. They will rip you off. I think Ketut works for them
Hi Wayne, I don’t work for the Bali Airport Taxi. My business is Bali Store Luggage and you are now on the blog of my business.
You are right though, you can go up to the third floor where the international arrival terminal is and Blue Bird taxis drop departing passengers. You will save a few $$$. Blue Bird taxis are actually not allowed to take passengers as they don’t pay the high license fee to the airport management. This high license fee is why the Bali Airport Taxi is priced higher than a Blue Bird Taxi.
Wayne have you taken a Blue Bird Taxi from the arrival hall? How was it? I have been told that the Blue Bird option is getting so popular that many others are trying to do the same. Also, as it is not officially allowed, there is no actual taxi queue and it is just a matter of who can get to the Blue Bird taxi first.
How much is driver taxi to Ubud for the day leaving from Legian
Hi Chris, you can hire a private car and driver to visit Ubud for a day at about Rp 500,000 to Rp 600,000 (8-10 hours).
Thanks Ketut
Do you know the hotel Alamkulkul, in Legian, is it ok place to stay,
And what would a taxi cost from the airport to the hotel
Hi Chris, I have seen Alam Kul Kul but it’s been several years now. I remember it as a nice hotel at a pretty good location.
The official rate for an airport taxi to the Alam Kul Kul is Rp 80,000 (#18 on the taxi board first picture).
Although the official rate is Rp 80,000 there is a chance that they will charge you more for no obvious reason. I think they will quote you somewhere around 120,000 – 150,000.
Would I get it cheaper if I use the metre on the taxi
Hi Chris, the Bali airport taxis don’t use their meters anymore I believe.
If you manage to find a Blue Bird taxi at the international arrival terminal (3rd floor) then the rate would be cheaper. The question though is how much effort are you willing to go through to save a few Rupiah.
On another forum someone said that the airport taxi wanted to charge them Rp 120,000. They went out negotiating with several drivers and eventually found another driver who did it for Rp 100,000. That is a Rp 20,000 or a 2 dollar saving. Some people love getting a 2 dollar discount while others rather get out of the airport fast.
Other than the official Bali airport taxi and the unofficial Blue Bird taxi you can also try to get an Uber driver to pick you up (if you have Uber installed on your phone).
Hello Ketut, can you recommend a website for private drivers? What should we expect to pay for 2-3 people in a car? Thank you. Leyla
Hi Leyla, the price for transfers depends on where you are going. You didn’t say where you will stay so it is a little hard to give you an estimate price. For a private car transfer you can check with Wayan (wayanprivatedriver@gmail.com). Getting a private driver is not guaranteed cheaper than getting an airport taxi though.
does anyone know of a good trust worthy taxi driver in the Legian area, we are there for a 10 days and need some transport while we are there.
what should we pay for a taxi from international arrivals to Legian Beach at around 10PM
Do not use the taxi counter at the airport. They inflated our price from 3000 Rupees to 4500 for being less than 5km out of Ubud. The taxi driver and the clerk at the counter were smirking as they happily rip of visitors to Bali. To make matters worse the driver then asked three times for a tip. He was told in no uncertain terms that he had already received 50% more than a local taxi would cost and he must be joking.
Save yourself a lot of money by pre arranging transport or leave the airport and negotiate yourself. This firm should be removed from the airport. Don’t believe any prices published on this board.
Hi Ketut,
Great thanks for the write up! Quick question, does the airport taxi counter accept credit card payment?
Cheers,
Justin
Hi Justin, you cannot pay using a credit card for the airport taxi. If you are arriving at the international terminal then there are a few ATM’s as well as two official money exchange offices within 10 meters of the taxi counter. Have a good trip!
Just wondering next Wednesday me and my daughter at flying from Amsterdam to Jakarta then straight to Denpasar then home to Perth all in 3 seperate flights but all connecting flights. We are on nz passports and booked In July 2015 . Do we have to pay departure tax? According to website we done . Can u help me please
Hi Kim, if you are in transit for 24 hours or less then normally you do not need to pay the airport departure tax. As you have booked your flights in July 2015, the tax would have been included in your ticket price. As you have booked three separate flights you are possibly charged for the airport departure tax anyway as one airline wouldn’t know that you have booked a connecting flight with a different airline. Click on this link for more info.
If the cost of a taxi to Double 6 is 110,000 why did the taxi counter charge us 150,000? You can’t charge whatever you want when you feel like it. I would like a refund of 40,000
Yes! Give Wayne his money back — people all over the world are watching how the Taxi jockeys rip people off and this one little instance made up my mind to go elsewhere on my vacation! Ridiculous.
I was charged 300000
I arrived at the international taxi counter ( 10:30pm 24/6/15) the same as always for the past many years. I had checked the location first on the board to see if fares had increased since December last year. The man at the desk told me the fare was 45,000 higher! I said no the sign says 80,000 same as in December it was 80,000. He just waved me away and said to leave! I located a man outside who agreed on the 80,000. Never again will I take a taxi from the airport, they have lost a regular customer. I will pre arrange my friend to pick me up. Shame on them, I’ve been coming to bali since 1994. This was the first incident. Not good for bali if now this is going to happen struggling taxi drivers will suffer. A bad start to a holiday in Bali.
Same happened to us a few days ago. We arrived just after a plane from Doha. Only 5:30 pm.
The guys at the official kiosk tried to charge us 120,000 instead of the 80,000 published rate.
We spend 6 months in Bali every year and this sort of cheating does my head in.
The guys at the taxi counter really laughing because they have a plane in from UAE and can inflate the taxi rates.
We used to always use the taxi kiosk but I was so annoyed, we just walked out across the road and picked up a BlueBird cab for 21,000. I was more than happy to give him a nice tip.
These “Official” people need sorting.
>we just walked out across the road and picked up a BlueBird cab for 21,000
Can you explain where this is? My friend told me to do this but I”m not sure where to go.
Is it the departures place where people ARRIVING at the airport go?
Hi Andy, I am going to assume you are arriving in Bali on an international flight at the international arrival terminal (not the domestic arrival terminal).
When you arrive at the international arrival terminal you will be on the ground floor. You need to take the elevator up to the 3rd floor. This is where the international departure terminal is.
This departure terminal is where you will see Bluebird taxis dropping of customers. After they have dropped of their customers you can sometimes get the Bluebird taxi to take you away from the airport. However, they are not licensed to do this so if you get in a Bluebird taxi you need to get it done swiftly. The longer you linger around the taxi the more chance that the Bluebird taxi will get flack from the taxi drivers who pay the license.
Be very on your toes when dealing with the pre paid taxi counter. Make sure you know exactly where your hotel is located and check rate in advance for that zone. (there are 3 zones in Kuta). Don’t hesitate to disagree. They kept giving me an incorrect high rate. Make sure they write the price on the chit. After much arguing, I got the posted price but then they tried to give me a chit with no price on it, inviting more problems. Driver was very grumpy.
We used this taxi service from airport to stones hotel legian, cost 95000, was the easiest way and by far cheapest.
Hi,
Were these prices displayed at the taxi booth?
Hi Kris, yes. The Bali Ngurah Rai Taxi has two taxi booths. One at the International arrival terminal and the other at the Domestic arrival terminal. These two pictures I took at the Domestic arrival terminal.
Thanks for the article and your reply, Ketut.
Do you know if the international taxi booth is displaying it too?
Hi Kris, these rates are displayed both at the domestic as well as the international arrival terminal. The same identical signboard.
